Google Tag Manager, wired properly
Tag Manager is the wiring between your website & your marketing tools. Done well, every booking click, call & sale reaches GA4 & Google Ads once, correctly. Done badly, your ads are optimising on bad data.

What we wire up
GA4 tags & events
One clean GA4 setup, with an event for every action that matters to your business.
Google Ads conversions
Conversion tags with real values, plus enhanced conversions to improve measurement accuracy.
Click tracking
Booking buttons, phone numbers, email links & voucher purchases, each tracked as its own action.
Form submissions
Enquiry, quote & fitting-request forms counted only when they’re actually sent.
E-commerce data
Product, cart & purchase data from WooCommerce or Shopify, passed through with prices & quantities.
Consent mode
Google’s consent mode set up alongside your cookie banner, where you use one.
Tested before it goes live
- Every change checked in Tag Manager’s preview mode
- Real test bookings & enquiries, confirmed in GA4 & Google Ads
- Versioned containers with notes on what changed & why
- Clear naming, so anyone can pick it up later
Golf-site gotchas
- Booking platforms that open in a new tab or an embedded frame, limiting what can be measured
- Cloudflare’s email obfuscation rewriting email links so clicks go uncounted
- Plugins quietly adding a second copy of the same tag
- Shopify checkouts, which track through Shopify’s customer events rather than standard Tag Manager
Tag Manager questions
Do we need Tag Manager if we have GA4?
GA4 on its own records page views & a few basics. Tag Manager lets us track the actions that matter, like booking clicks, & send them to Google Ads & other tools without changing your website code each time.
Will it slow our website down?
A tidy container with only the tags you need has little impact. Removing old & duplicate tags is part of every setup we do.
Who owns the container?
We recommend it sits under your business’s own Google account, with us added as users, so your setup always stays with you.
